RE: Parole Hearing - July 3,2025
Chuck Edward Johnson CDCR #K11650
Subsequent Suitability Hearing
Convicted of 1st degree murder Sentence 25 years to Life

Dear Commissioners,

In regard to the above matter, and on behalf of the family of Brittany Lynn Rethorn-Riggs, who was murdered by Chuck Johnson, I am objecting, in the strongest possible terms, to the parole, which has been put before you. Chuck Johnson was found guilty of 1st degree murder by a jury. He received a fair trial. The California Appellate Court affirmed the judgement.

According to the records, Chuck Johnson had a past criminal history of increasingly serious criminal conduct including assault with a deadly weapon, domestic violence and child endangerment.  The probation department concluded that Brittany’s murder illustrated “a high degree of cruelty, viciousness, and callousness” and that Johnson is “an exceedingly dangerous individual.”

This is direct from the transcript of his own words

Johnson has given several different accounts of what happened the day of Brittany’s murder, and has not yet taken full responsibility for his actions.  In addition, he chose to intimidate Brittany’s family by providing a parole plan in 2009 and 2016 indicating he would move just a few miles away from their home. In 2023 he still not have parole plans. He said in the 2023 parole hearing he has not completed AA/NA or Domestic violence programs.

Johnson should not be considered a youthful offender at age 24.

Johnson is 55 years old and still is a danger , at his age, time served and possible diminished physical condition should not be considered in his parole.

When you have reviewed the details of this case, I am hopeful that your response will be to agree that parole is neither warranted nor deserved and will deny any relief to Chuck Johnson.
